Golf is a lot of things. Just not what you think.
Room 19 is a weekly golf culture newsletter for people finding golf on their own terms. Not tips, not gear reviews. The stories about who’s playing now, why, and what’s changing.
Hi, I’m Paul. I took up golf at 37. And I’ve spent about 20 years working in culture media, at places like HYPEBEAST, Lyst and Complex.
When I got into golf, two things surprised me. The game was nothing like the stereotype. And almost nothing written about it matched what I was seeing. It was swing tips, kit reviews and pictures of courses most of us will never play.
So I started Room 19. Every golf course has 18 holes and a clubhouse. Room 19 is the hidden room. The place where golf's next generation of fans are gathering, an extension of the clubhouse rather than a replacement for it. It's golf writing that treats the game the way the culture magazines I read treat everything else. Properly.
What is Room 19?
Room 19 is an independent golf editorial brand from the UK. Every week I write about the people, places and ideas changing golf, from off-course formats and golf societies to fashion, clubhouse culture and the stuff nobody tells you when you start.
Why is it called Room 19?
Room 19 is the hidden room on the golf course, the place where the next generation of golf fans is gathering. Think of it as an extension of the traditional clubhouse.
Who is it for?
The golf curious. Not the blazers.
Maybe you’ve been to a driving range or a Topgolf and wondered if the “real” game is for you. Maybe you play a few times a year and still feel like an outsider at the clubhouse. Maybe you’ve played for years and want to read about golf as culture, not just sport. If golf has ever felt like it wasn’t made for you, it’s for you.
What will I get?
The Untold Game. The main weekly issue. One story golf forgot to tell, from what the handicap system really means to why off-course golf is the new way to get to know someone.
Game Changers. The founders and builders shaping golf’s future, the ones you haven’t heard of yet.
Personal stories. First-hand pieces on what it’s actually like to come into golf later, from outside the game.
Shorter formats like The Read, On The Tee and Word of Mouth live on Instagram and TikTok.
Why subscribe?
Because golf is changing faster than its reputation. More people are playing than ever, lots of them in ways the old rules never planned for.
Room 19 tells those stories, straight to your inbox, every week. Free.
In golf, a lost ball stays lost. These stories don’t have to.
